Seventy-five years have passed since Indonesia declared its independence, but food security is rarely heard of. How is the state of food security now?
TJF brought up the independence day spirit on the next TJF challenge. This challenge was to create a comic strip to hit the awareness of all participants interested in creating a creative story about Indonesia’s food security and mold their ideas into an attractive visual form.
This challenge ran for two weeks for all comic artist participants to finish their artworks from 28 July to 15 August 2020. The committee received more than 40 comic strips. TJF also invited the comic artist: A. Pradipta (webtoon comic artist) to join as one of the judges. Most of all, the comic strips TJF received from all participants were very impressive. The participants pour out various kinds of ideas about Indonesia’s food security, the story about their concerns, hopes, and the effort to bring the solutions that can be carried out to safeguard our food security.
Even though the participants created many amazing comics, we still had to choose the best three to be awarded. In the end, we finally announced the three winners on 21 August: 1st Winner (food waste), 2nd Winner (food diversification), 3rd Winner (urban farming for household-scale food security). They were awarded in the form of fresh money valued at IDR 500k, IDR 400k, and IDR 300k. All participants also got the e-certificate as our token of appreciation.
